Waterproof, without exceptions!
The membrane acts as an impenetrable barrier, 100% waterproof, through which absolutely nothing can pass. Waterproof means a good deal more than water-repellent. Even when a mattress has been under great pressure over a long period of time, not a single droplet can penetrate the fabric. The fabric can even be completely soaked without its back even feeling damp.
Waterproof can also be a perfect solution in the care setting, where incontinence and associated problems for the sleeping environment can be significant. Examples include hospitals, homes for the elderly, childcare institutions, but also hotels and care in the home.
As well as being totally waterproof, the membrane’s incredibly dense structure can also claim other important properties. For instance, it constitutes a complete physical barrier to the house dust mite.
This irritating creature which feeds on our skin cells and thrives best in a warm, damp environment (such as the sleeping environment) is far bigger than the pores in the waterproof membrane, and is hence unable to nestle in them.
Another important fact should be mentioned here: the membrane consists of pores, which means it has a degree of permeability to moisture despite being completely waterproof. There is none of the crackling you would get from sleeping on plastic: the polyurethane membrane coating is durable but does not affect the original properties of the fabric onto which it has been laminated, such as its softness. |
