Medically-tested Textiles

as healthy to wear as your skin itself

How is skin tolerance tested?
Our tests take a product in its original packaging, straight from the factory. The product passes the test only if our testers find that no abnormalities have developed in the cell culture. The result is then clear: Absolutely harmless.

Why we need new skin tolerance standard?
Most maximum limits and individual guidelines ignore the main issue. We believe that a garment can only be passed as skin-tolerant when all the chemicals it contains have been tested for their collective effects. Tested, moreover, at the point where a garment is in contact with the body; on the skin.

The skin tolerance standard guarantees 2 things:

Firstly:

The textiles that bear this standard will not release any harmful substances that irritate the skin in any way.

Secondly:
All substances on the surface of the textiles are skin – tolerant – individually and collectively. All the substances used in fabric processing to make textiles look more attractive are collectively non-toxic and harmless.

Medically tested

Cytotoxicity test

The gel is brought in contact with the connective tissue cells. Test is only passed when the vitality of the cells in not impaired.

Keratinocyte test
In a second test the gel is brought in contact with living skin cells. Its physiological reaction over a period of 24 hours is measured for the skin irritation potential of the sample.

Only medically tested textiles that pass our rigorous skin-tolerance tests receive the Seal of Quality of the German Fordergemeinschaft korpervertraflicher Textilien e.v. (Registered Society for the Promotion of Skin-Tolerant Textiles).

We believe the key concern is not whether the garment contains chemicals, but what collective effect these chemicals have on the skin.
This holistic viewpoint spurred on to develop a new skin tolerance standard
.

Now we have put your mind at rest – that you already know that our skin-tolerance standard is so reliable. In addition to the skin tolerance test, an effect-related toxin test is also done. The limits of the toxin tests are compromise to Oeko-Tex standard 100, class 1.
